Go Lightly – April 11, 2018

| Radio

Bubble Wrap continues with the letter H and introduces more new music from around the country including a few songs we really like.  Cutting to the chase, the hands down favorite of the evening was “Gold Purple Orange” by Jean Grae and Quelle Chris, which has one of the more compelling lyrics we’ve heard lately with music to match.  We were also impressed by Khruangbin’s “Maria Tambien, an above average instrumental.

Sunflower Bean’s singer has a nice voice but they need better lyrics.

The No Joy/Sonic Boom project is interesting too — we heard “Obsession” — albeit a bit long even for non-commercial radio at 11 minutes.   I could listen to this kind of stuff all night, but I’m never sure our listeners can.

This week’s cover: the slightly overplayed but always enjoyable Housemartins’ version of “Caravan of Love.”  Oh, and a very unusual “I Want You To Want Me” by the Holmes Brothers.

And more….
