There are two flavors of music we run into a lot on Bandcamp’s new music feeds — super chill and hardcore. Everyone seems to be either really angry (depressed, frustrated) and looking for an outlet, OR in need of relief from the constant stress of everyday life. Where the present fails us, we fill in out of the past… New releases from which we sampled: JLQ, Dada Smurf, Morgan-X, Sharon Chen, XOXO Xopher.

The Strokes have a new album (Going Shopping). They seem more laid back than I remember them to be, but it’s been a while.
This one isn’t new, but if you’re celebrating April 20, you might enjoy Daisy O’Connor’s “Cookies n Weed.”
Factoid: And The Kids released “Strange To Be” ten years older ago, making The Kids ten years older than they were then, and hence, no longer kids. It’s still a great song….
And while we’re rambling, here are two of the strangest pseudonymous releases we’ve heard from a major artist:
- The French Fries’ “Small Fries,” a song purportedly recorded by Sly and the Family Stone while hiding out in Europe back in the 70s.
- Jonathan & Darlene Edwards’ version of “Springtime In Paris.” The Edwards are actually Jo Stafford and bandleader-husband Paul Weston. They did a comedy show together based around egregious covers of old ballads.
