Another week, another bunch of stuff to freak out about. Fortunately, there is music to distract us… Like WBBL, a London dj guy who released a new single, Suzy, just this week. “Suzy” is a highly cheery dance number with a great late century bounce. Winning in every way. Another dance track that we especially love is Joshua Idehen’s “You Want To Dance or What,” which brings romance back to the dance floor with unexpected pathos. In the same department, Gorillaz’s “Delirium” is also fun, and features Mark E. Smith who makes an appearance from beyond the grave (somehow this seems appropriate).
Slick, smart pop from My New Band Believe with “Numerology,” full of loungy insouciance and urban urgency, super poppy melodics and skronky jazz. This one got “song of the week,” awarded just now by me.
And finally, from the folk world, we heard “Loved & Wanted” by New Haven, CT artist Ponybird. Recorded live in Brookhaven, their performance was polished and effective — an artist on the brink, we think.
There was more. Find out how much more below.
