Perhaps it is that in the sum-sum-summertime, the living gets easy and so do the tunes. We didn’t challenge ourselves too much this week on Bubble Wrap radio. Rather, we caressed our listeners gently with the soft breezes of pop, throwing in a little funk for zest. L-Vis 1990, more Boogarins, The Truehearts, Scone Cash Players, some random covers, and a whole bunch of twofers must suffice to summarize the evening.

Finding summer music is not a difficult task — there are at least a bazillion summer songs. We played a bunch of summer favorites, from the likes of George Clinton, Kool and the Gang, and Teen Girl Scientists Monthly. New music too, including Lillie Mae, Tinariwen, and Madonna (we know). And more!

Early summer has a way of feeling undefined. Anything can happen but nothing has yet. Still there are trends to be followed…. This week’s trend on Bubble Wrap was that there was no trend. We heard a lot from Boogarins who did a Lagniappe session recently, a trippy track from Ingrid Chavez who is apparently famous, and some sweet pop from Allah-Las. Also, and as always, covers, funky stuff, and a few seminal numbers from the past still worth remembering.

This week, we had the unusual pleasure of playing music by a local band, those popularizers of so-called ‘heart rock’ known as Yellowfront, from the bonny burg of Brattleboro, VT.  Also on the list, newer releases from Dream Syndicate, Amyl and the Sniffers, Sinkane, among others. We missed a show on May Day but we made up for it this week, haphazardly but with gusto. There are times when it seems necessary to spout views and opinions and this is one of them. Bubble Wrap kicked off with Sonic Youth and closed with Superfonicos, and somehow it all came out right. New music, old complaints, live readings from old books, and a pair of tributes to the gallant Gilets Jaunes. What does this mean? We haven’t a clue.

Indeed, it has been stereotypically rainy this April, and tonight was no exception. But Bubble Wrap Radio must go on.
