A Politically Motivated Punk and Funk Show

| Radio

It was March the second, and we had just emerged from our caves after two weeks with influenza (we assume that’s what it was — we certainly felt awful enough).  The day before, Bernie had lost Nevada and somehow, that seemed like the end of the world to me.  So we took off on a ride into the countryside with a pile of old CDs and tried to find something positive to think about.  There was still snow around and the trees were bare, but it was pleasurable to listen to people who were almost as pissed off as we were.

The radio show we did later that week turned out to be assorted commentaries on fucked-upness, with occasional meanders into absurdity.  My contribution was a bunch of old British pre and post punk “art” bands from Scotland, along with an assortment of early British art punk bands from England generally, and a couple of German groups who people who like Stereolab have heard of.  Not in that order.

We did a 70s set of early techno and indie rock, then an inspirational funk set, followed by a Scottish set from the Postcard era.  This got us to Prolapse and Pavement before utter chaos set in.  I don’t know what it was like to listen to, but it was a lot of fun to play. Here’s the list:
